About the Project – NEWNAR
The NEWNAR (New Narratives on Migration) project, funded by Xjenza Malta, explores how alternative narratives can foster more inclusive societies by challenging dominant representations of migration and diversity.
The project analyses how participatory storytelling and community engagement can help reshape public perceptions.
Project Goals & Outputs
Building on previous work by GMD, the NEWNAR project will deliver:
- Applied Research: study of mechanisms that enable narrative shifts around migration.
- Practice Mapping: analysis of promising practices for inclusive representations.
- Scenario Toolkit: development of tools for education, advocacy, and community initiatives.
- Podcast Series: highlighting experiences, practices, and voices from Malta and Europe.
- Open Access: publication of research and practitioner-oriented outputs.
- Engagement: stakeholder workshops, webinars, and public events.
The project adopts a participatory approach, co-designing its outputs with educators, community leaders, and migrant stakeholders.
About the Role
GMD Training and Consultancy Services Ltd. is seeking a motivated Junior Researcher / Research Support Assistant to support the implementation of the NEWNAR project and other research and project activities.
The successful candidate will contribute to research activities, assist in the development of project deliverables, and support communication and outreach activities. The role requires the ability to work independently in a fully remote environment, while maintaining regular coordination with the project team.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting literature reviews on migration and narrative change.
- Supporting data collection and qualitative analysis.
- Analysing media, public discourse, and communication campaigns.
- Supporting the mapping of good practices related to narrative change.
- Assisting with stakeholder engagement and informant interviews.
- Contributing to the Scenario Development Toolkit.
- Supporting workshops, webinars, and co-creation activities.
- Assisting with project communication and dissemination.
- Supporting the drafting of reports for funders.
- Participating in project meetings and coordination.
Requirements & Conditions
Qualifications
Degree in Migration Studies, Social Sciences, International Relations, or related fields. Experience in migration research and strong analytical skills are essential.
Eligibility
Candidates must be based in Malta and have the legal right to work in the country with all necessary permits.
Working Conditions
Fully remote position. The candidate must have a personal laptop and a reliable internet connection.
