About ORRAJT:
ORRAJT – On the Road: New Routes, Alternative Journeys, and Fair Tracks is an Erasmus+ project aimed at reshaping migration narratives and fostering social inclusion. Promoted by Global Mindset Development, in partnership with ACRA and Viaggi Solidali, we’re bringing the Migrantour’s philosophy to Malta.
Migrantour is a project that spans across numerous countries, including cities like Turin, Milan, Genoa, Florence, Rome, Barcellona, Paris, Utrecht, and Lisbon. It offers a unique form of sustainable urban tourism, guided by citizens of migrant origin, to explore the diverse cultures and stories within multi-ethnic cities and neighborhoods. These walks provide an opportunity to challenge stereotypes, promote intercultural exchange, and foster new narratives about migration.
What we offer:
- Free Training: learn to become an intercultural companion through our comprehensive training course. It will also include tutoring sessions held by expert intercultural companions coming from other countries.
- Skill Development: hone your soft skills and gain valuable experience in promoting intercultural exchange.
- Employment Opportunity: An opportunity to get paid, on-demand tours after finishing a free training course. after completion, you’ll have the opportunity to accompany 2-hour-long tours around Malta, for which you will be paid. We need to highlight that even though we see this project as a fantastic opportunity, it does not substitute a full or part-time job. Instead, being an Intercultural Companion is, first and foremost, volunteering, which is rewarded with appropriate compensation.
Who we’re looking for:
- Individuals with a migrant background (1st, 2nd or 3rd generation as well as Maltese returnees), whether from Europe or outside the EU.
- Proficiency in English (at an upper intermediate level/B2 level).
- Curiosity, motivation, openness, and a desire to contribute to inclusion and intercultural encounters.
- Open-minded and wants to combat discrimination by having intercultural dialogues around topics like heritage, belonging and migration.
- Is residing and will be living in Malta for at least the next 12 months;
- Is available to participate in a 2-month training course and following tutoring, which is free of cost, with a commitment to attend at least 75% of the sessions.
